The Christian life is one of renewal. God is all about moving forwards, onwards, and changing things for the better. That is why He sent Jesus, so that we could have new life though Him. No matter what has happened in our life, or in the life of the church – a tragedy in our life, just a clumsy mistake yesterday, a disagreement with others – God says that we can begin again.
The same Jesus who turned water into wine can transform our home, our church life, our family, and our future. He is still in the miracle-working business, and His business is the business of new beginnings.
Warren Wiersbe, a Christian writer said, ‘Nothing paralyzes our lives like the attitude that things can never change. We need to remind ourselves that God can change things. Outlook determines outcome. If we see only the problems, we will be defeated; but if we see the possibilities in the problems, we can have victory.’
As a church we need to be constantly looking at new beginnings. New people stepping up into leadership positions, new ways of telling the wonderful gospel story, new ways of worship. O, yes, and new church furnishings and decorations. So, let us celebrate the new, but be ready to move on and change again as prompted by the Holy Spirit.
But most of all we celebrate our new life in Christ, our minds being daily renewed by the Holy Spirit, so that we can be the new people God wants us to be.
